KITCHENER, Ont. -- Brad Gushue of St. Johns, N.L., needs just one more win to get closer to another Olympic experience. The 2006 Olympic gold medallist came out hitting against Saskatoons Steve Laycock for a 5-3 win on Sunday in the Page Playoff C-C game at the Road to the Roar Olympic pre-trials. With the win, Gushue earned another faceoff with Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., in the last chance to qualify for the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials in December. That event that will decide Canadas teams for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. "It felt great out there," said Gushue. "I thought we played well. We really minimized our mistakes, which is something really burned us early on this week. We didnt make any big ones, and the few mistakes that we did, we came back with great shots after." The No. 2-ranked Gushue rattled off two wins early in the pre-trial tournament, then lost the A-Event final to John Morris of Vernon/Kelowna, B.C. Battling back through the B-Event, Gushue lost the semifinal to Jacobs and had to win two more games before defeating Greg Balsdon of Elgin, Ont., in the C-Event finals and earn a spot in the Page C-C game. Gushue and his team of Brett Gallant, Adam Casey, Geoff Walker and coach Peter Gallant shot 90 per cent as a team, and executed the big shots when needed. In the eighth, with a Laycock counter tucked behind a corner guard, Gushue made the runback double with his first, and then threw a precise pick forcing Laycock to hit for one and head into the final two ends trailing by two. Trailing by one in the final end, Laycock split the house to set up a possible score of two, forcing Gushue to draw for one and put the win away. "Were playing our best curling the past two days, and hopefully it continues tonight," Gushue said. "We just need one game, one great game, and well be in Winnipeg. But unfortunately, were playing a real good team, and theyre playing well too. So were going to give it everything we have and hopefully come out on top." While disappointed, Laycock was also philosophical after the loss. "We came in ranked fifth, and we finished fourth," said Laycock. "Disappointing to lose out there, but they played a great game though. Brad make five or six doubles that were huge." Barcelona Martin Montoya Jersey . Luke Harrison spoiled Garrett Hughsons shutout bid with a power-play goal at 13:17 of the third period. The Spokane goaltender finished with 28 saves, including a Brandon Fushimi penalty shot in the second period that would have tied the game 1-1. Jordi Alba Jersey . "Jeff is a hard worker who was an important special-teams contributor for us last season," said Stamps GM John Hufnagel.KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs could be without their top two pass rushers for a while after Tamba Hali sprained his right ankle and Justin Houston sprained his elbow in a 41-38 loss to San Diego on Sunday. Neither player was in the locker room after the game, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid said both of them will have MRI exams on Monday. Kansas City plays the Denver Broncos, who beat them a week ago, in their crucial return game at Arrowhead Stadium next Sunday. "Im not making excuses," Reid said. "The next guy has to come in and step up." The Chargers (5-6) similarly could be without top running back Ryan Mathews for a while after he left the game with a hamstring injury. San Diego coach Mike McCoy did not disclose the severity of the injury after the game, though Ronnie Brown and Danny Woodhead fared well in relief. Houston was hurt while chasing down a play when Chiefs safety Eric Berry collided with his right arm. Houston was eventually helped off the field, his right arm kept motionless, and helped to the locker room in the waning minutes of the first half. Hali rolled his ankle while trying to get into the Chargers backfield earlier in the second quarter. He was helped from the field, loaded onto a cart and also taken to the locker room. "Its hard to think about it during the game because you have to move on to the next play, but its always tough losing that calibre of players," Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers said. "We have players that are backing them up that are more than capable of doing the job."t; Still, Frank Zombo and Dezman Moses arent quite as effective as Houston and Hali, and their absence was felt in the second half.dddddddddddd Philip Rivers had plenty of time and wound up throwing for 392 yards and three touchdowns, the last one to Seyi Ajirotutu with 24 seconds left in the game. It was the eighth and final lead change in a wild game. "We just have to buckle down," Chiefs safety Eric Berry said. "You dont have those guys coming off the edge with that relentless force. We have guys who can step in and play, but we just know as a defence and a secondary we have to bring it." Houston came into the game third in the NFL with 11 sacks, while Hali was tied for fifth with nine. Hali needed two more to pass Art Still (73) for the third most in franchise history. The Chiefs, who had been healthy most of the season, already were playing without starting defensive tackle Mike DeVito because of a knee injury. Allen Bailey replaced him in the lineup. Right guard Jon Asamoah (calf and shoulder) and right tackle Eric Fisher (shoulder) also were inactive after getting hurt in last weeks loss to Denver. Asamoah was replaced by Geoff Schwartz and Fisher by Donald Stephenson in the starting lineup. "This is the National Football League. So when people go down, others step up," Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson said. "We didnt execute the defence as well as we should have. They have some good players on offence and they capitalized every time we made a little bit of a mistake."
