SALT LAKE CITY â Being a playoff novice isnât preventing Utah Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio from making a major impact on the court.
Rubio turned in one of the finest performances of his career while sparking the Jazz to a 115-102 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. He tallied 26 points on 9-for-18 shooting Tremaine Edmunds Color Rush Jersey , 10 assists, 11 rebounds and two steals to help Utah claim a 2-1 series lead over Oklahoma City. The Thunder will look to even the series again when the two teams square off again on Monday night.
Rubio became the first Jazz player to earn a triple-double in the postseason since John Stockton did it in 2001. Being in the same company as an NBA Hall of Famer meant a great deal to Rubio.
âHaving my name next to his name is an honor,â Rubio said. âI donât know what else to say. Itâs huge. I have huge respect for him.â
Rubioâs efforts rescued Utah when the Jazz dug a hole late in the first quarter and early in the second quarter. Oklahoma City took a 45-33 lead on a driving layup from Russell Westbrook about five minutes into the quarter. Rubio suddenly took over and imposed his will on both ends of the court.
Over the final 7:13 of the first half, Rubio ripped off 15 points on 4 of 8 shooting, collected six rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and had a steal. It turned a 12-point deficit into 58-53 halftime lead for the Jazz.
âRicky attacked,â Utah coach Quin Snyder said. âHe attacked, but with poise and he was making some shots. I thought he took good shots and it really stabilized our group during that time.â
Utah never trailed in the second half and the teamâs latest win has put Oklahoma City in a desperate position going into Game 4. The Thunder need a victory to avoid going back to Oklahoma facing an elimination game on Wednesday.
âGame 4 is going to be a test of what type of team we are and who we are as a team,â forward Carmelo Anthony said. âWe look forward to these type of challenges.â
The Thunder put tons of defensive pressure on the Jazz at times. Oklahoma City forced 19 turnovers and turned those turnovers into 33 points. But the Thunder could not take care of the ball when it mattered as the game progressed.
Oklahoma City coughed up 17 turnovers, leading to 15 points for the Jazz. Six of them came in the third quarter and led to 10 points for Utah. It allowed the Jazz to build an 89-75 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
âWe did a nice job midway through that second quarter and then I thought our turnovers came back and really caused a problem for us Bears Roquan Smith Jersey ,â Thunder coach Billy Donovan said. âI felt like our guys were working hard to get back, but itâs hard to recover when you turn the ball over like that.â
For Oklahoma City, snapping a two-game skid might come down to figuring out how to gain an edge around the basket. The Jazz have imposed their will in the post during the series.
In three games, Utah has outscored the Thunder 140-108 in the paint. The Jazz also have a 37-25 advantage in offensive rebounds and a 49-36 edge in second-chance points.
Warriors general manager Bob Myers expects swift negotiations to re-sign two-time reigning NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant and coach Steve Kerr.
Durant could sign for as long as four years and about $160 million, and Myers is prepared to give him âwhatever he wants.â Durant has said all along he wants to stay put, especially after winning a pair of championships in his first two seasons with Golden State.
âSometimes you donât negotiate. Iâd love to have him for 10 years. Kevin Durant, look what he did for us last year, he did us a great service,â Myers said. âHeâs earned the right to sign whatever deal he wants. I just want him to sign a deal. But want him to be happy and want him to know that we want him as long as he wants to be here. Heâs earned that, to kind of lay out the terms. He can do whatever he wants. That shouldnât be a long negotiation. Our goal Leighton Vander Esch Cowboys Jersey , to be honest, is to try to keep the whole thing together, so thatâs the pieces of the puzzle weâve got to try to figure out.â
Kerr has one year remaining on his original five-year contract, so he would receive a multiyear extension â and Kerr wants to coach Golden State for the long haul, perhaps for another decade if he can.
He doesnât expect any difficulties in getting a deal worked out.
âWeâll get that done pretty quick, I donât think itâll be much to it,â Kerr said.
Myers wants to keep as much of the core of the two-time defending champions intact while also realizing the Warriors will be a younger team without the same veteran presence as the group that just swept LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to finish the finals Friday. Working to try to extend the contracts of Draymond Green and Klay Thompson could be discussed as well.
âSure, guys have proven they can win so you want to keep that group together,â Myers said. âI have no idea how thatâll play out. Itâs a lot of different conversations that have to take place and if thatâs something that we want to look into Iâm sure we could have those â Klayâs got another year, Draymondâs got two more. Kevinâs really the free agent we have to focus on.â

Key reserve David West is contemplating retirement, telling Kerr and Myers during exit interviews he will take some time to decide.
West said after the title clincher that the team went through things behind the scenes that would be surprising if revealed.
âI donât know if anything would really blow your mind but it was a difficult season and there were lots of moments where it became more difficult,â Kerr said. âI didnât think it was anything unusual given the state of our team, what weâve been through and the length of this journey. Nothing to me was that Youth Vita Vea Jersey , like, shocking but yeah we went through some stuff. ⦠For sure this was the toughest of the four (years).â
Myers also downplayed any tension or turmoil that took place privately.
âCertain challenges, some were apparent, some not,â Myers said.
Kerr plans to take it easy for the next several months and not work much as Myers handles the contracts and money, while leaving summer league coaching duties to Willie Green.
Itâs still sinking in for Kerr just how much success the Warriors have had during this four-year stretch since he became coach ahead of the 2014-15 season.
âI never could have envisioned this. I know when I took this job I thought we could be really good,â Kerr said. âI could never have dreamt of three titles in four years. Itâs pretty incredible to be a part of the group and the organization.â
