Several prominent players across the NFL have skipped mandatory minicamps this week Chad Thomas Jersey , subjecting themselves to team fines out of concern for their contract status in a league where so little is guaranteed.
Everyone is accounted for in Minnesota, where good vibes from the top of the organization to the bottom of the roster can only help the Vikings in their attempt to better their NFC championship game appearance from last season.
âAll these guys, they like to be around each other. So I think thatâs part of it,â coach Mike Zimmer said. âWeâve got a lot of really good guys on this football team who care about not just them, but they care about each other. Itâs kind of just the way we do things.â
Savvy salary cap management steered by executive vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski has allowed the Vikings to put the majority of their stars in mutually beneficial multi-year deals, but outside linebacker Anthony Barr, wide receiver Stefon Diggs and defensive end Danielle Hunter have all entered 2018 on expiring contracts that must be addressed soon unless the Vikings are willing to let them become free agents and potentially price the club out on the open market.
Still, all three of them have been practicing with the team this week, clearly confident enough in their future earnings to opt for full participation over mild protest. He said recently his hope was to have a new contract in place by the beginning of on-field workouts in May, but thatâs the closest anyone has come to even hinting about dissatisfaction.
Barr is among the 2014 first-round draft picks whoâve reached their first career crossroad, playing the fifth option year that the majority of teams have exercised for cost control. Then there are the post-first round 2015 picks such as Hunter and Diggs whoâve entered the fourth season of their rookie deals.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back LeâVeon Bell, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan and Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack have created headlines around the league for staying home this week from minicamp.
âMy job is to come in to work, just like you come in to work the same way,â Hunter said. âMy job is to come in and get on this field and play football.â

âThatâs one thing Zim has taught us since heâs been here: No one player is more important than the team,â Hunter said. âSo I guess that kind of grew into the program. Last year, it wasnât close to that, so weâve got to work for that again.â

During the first day of Bengals minicamp, the offense ran through new plays.

Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor decided they didnât look as good on the field as they did in his overhauled play book.
âYou keep moving, keep evolving,â Lazor said Wednesday before practice. âThatâs what weâre in the process of doing.â
Cincinnatiâs offense is a work in progress Demarcus Walker Jersey , a year after it finished last in the league for the first time in franchise history.
Lazor was elevated to interim coordinator after Ken Zampese was fired two games into the season. Heâs been retained and given discretion to redesign the playbook.
Players say the terminology and some of the play designs have changed significantly. Fans and the rest of the league wonât start noticing the differences until the season begins. For now, the staff is trying to get the offense into a final form.
Lazor decided on a major overhaul after the Bengalsâ 7-9 finish, their second straight losing season. The offense was bad all-around, with Andy Dalton getting little time to throw and the running backs finding little room to run behind a struggling offense line.
âI donât know if we have enough time to talk about what didnât go the way we wanted,â Lazor said. âWeâve got to focus on the now.â
One emphasis in minicamp is setting a standard for practice and encouraging players to hold each other accountable.
âWe just keep putting it in front of them: This is our standard,â Lazor said âThis is what we want to establish and what we expect in practice, and continue to put it on the players to help hold each other accountable. To me, the greatest thing weâve done as a group right now is set the standard.â
Lazor has noticed a different atmosphere since the new playbook was installed.
âI think it got a lot of the playersâ attention, just got people going,â he said.
SOCCER FEVER: Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was delighted to hear that North America won the bid to host the 2026 World Cup. Dunlap grew up playing soccer and basketball in South Carolina â his mother didnât allow him to become a football player until eighth grade â and heâs attended FC Cincinnati games.
Dunlap is excited about the possibility of attending a World Cup game.
âIâve tossed it around many times Cam Newton Jersey , going over there to see World Cup because the energy they have at their games and stadiums is second to none â unless itâs us against the Pittsburgh Steelers, or the Florida Gators against Georgia in the Cocktail Party,â said Dunlap, who attended Florida. âIt rivals those.â
STILL NO EIFERT: Tight end Tyler Eifert missed a second straight day of practice because of an undisclosed injury. He wasnât available in the open locker room period, and coach Marvin Lewis declined to provide any specifics. Eifert was on the field in a jersey, but didnât have a helmet or participate in drills. Eifert signed an incentive-laden, one-year deal after being limited to two games last season because of chronic back problems.
