The Thunder hope they have run into some more good luck in the second round.
Oklahoma City took Virginia guard Devon Hall with the 53rd overall selection in the NBA Draft on Thursday night and Texas-Arlington forward Kevin Hervey four picks later.
The Thunder got contributions last season from 2015 second-round pick Dakari Johnson and 2013 second-round pick Alex Abrines Brian Allen Jersey , and they hope Hall and Hervey can develop and eventually produce. Thunder general manager Sam Presti liked the fact that both were four-year college players.
âHall and Hervey are guys that, any time youâre picking in the 50s, the main objective is to try to shift the odds and try to pick a player who can play in the NBA,â Presti said.
The 6-foot-5 Hall averaged 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season for the Cavaliers, who entered the NCAA Tournament as the nationâs No. 1-ranked team. The stout defensive player shot 43.2 percent from 3-point range last season. He was an All-ACC second team selection.
The Thunder said they watched Hall at the Portsmouth Invitational and had him work out in Oklahoma City.
âWhen you get guys who have been through it with top teams in the country, playing high-level ACC basketball, youâre happy to add those guys into the program.â Thunder vice president Will Dawkins said.
Hervey, a 6-foot-9 forward with a 7-3 wingspan, averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season and was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection. As a senior Graham Gano Jersey , he scored 24 points against Alabama and 24 points against Creighton. He fell two points short of the schoolâs single-season scoring record.
As a junior, Hervey was the Sun Belt Player of the Year. He finished as the programâs all-time rebounding leader and second in total points scored, field goals and field goal attempts. He set a program record for most career double-doubles.
âWith Hervey, heâs somebody that was asked to carry a lot of load,â Dawkins said. âOffensively, heâs somebody who has some upside.â
Hervey missed 19 games as a sophomore due to a knee injury. Presti believes heâs better than his draft position would indicate.
They will join a team that has an uncertain future. The Thunder had high hopes last season after adding Paul George and Carmelo Anthony in trades to join Russell Westbrook, but the Thunder stumbled early, went 48-34 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. George has a player option on his deal and could leave this summer.
ESPN reported that the Thunder traded for the No. 45 pick, Kentucky redshirt freshman Hamidou Diallo. Brooklyn made the pick for Charlotte. Presti said only there was âpotentially some stuff that happened tonight.â

Chargers cornerback Trevor Williams injured his leg during the fourth practice of training camp Tuesday, potentially dealing another blow to Los Angelesâ depth in the defensive secondary.
But coach Anthony Lynn is cautiously optimistic that his teamâs latest injury isnât serious.
Williams was hurt while defending receiver Mike Williams in a red zone drill. Trevor Williams had to be helped off the field by teammate Jahleel Addae.
After getting attention from the training staff Mike Adams Jersey , he left Jack Hammett Sports Complex on crutches with his left foot in a walking boot.
The injury and Williamsâ reaction to it were foreboding, but Lynn was hopeful he hasnât lost his starting cornerback for an extended period.
âYouâre holding your breath there,â Lynn said. âI think he sprained his ankle, but I donât think itâs bad. I mean, itâs the fourth day of training camp. Hell, we have coaches around here limping. Coaches are sore, so I canât imagine how the players feel.â
After the Chargersâ history with catastrophic injuries in the past few seasons, Lynn wonât exhale until Williams undergoes further tests.
The Chargers are a popular pick to earn a playoff spot this fall, but they already incurred serious injuries to two potential key contributors before training camp even began.
Los Angeles lost starting tight end Hunter Henry to a knee injury on a non-contact drill in May. The Chargers then lost long-injured former Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett to a torn Achilles tendon during a conditioning test last week.
Verrettâs most recent injury occurred at the brink of his comeback after missing most of the past two seasons. His newest setback âbroke a lot of our hearts,â Pro Bowl cornerback Casey Hayward said.
But Verrettâs absence wasnât a disaster for the Chargers last season because of the surprising emergence of Williams Arian Foster Jersey , who stepped into a key role after catching on with the Chargers in 2016 as an undrafted free agent from Penn State.
Williams started five games as a rookie, and he started 15 more games last season opposite Hayward in the Chargersâ opportunistic defensive secondary. He made the first two interceptions of his career along with 56 tackles and generally provided outstanding coverage.
âHeâll bounce back,â defensive tackle Brandon Mebane said of Williams. âTrevor is a great professional, and you know heâs going to do whatever he can to get right back on the field. Weâre just going to wait on him and be patient.â
The Bolts have been forced to do that quite a bit during Mebaneâs tenure. They lost a staggering number of man-games to injuries in San Diego during their final two seasons, which were also the worst two seasons of Philip Riversâ 12-year tenure as their starting quarterback. Fans who followed the Chargers from San Diego to LA already know the Bolts went 5-11 in 2016 after losing Verrett, cornerback Brandon Flowers, linebacker Manti Teâo, receivers Keenan Allen and Stevie Johnson and running back Danny Woodhead for extended periods.
Even after losing Verrett last week, the Chargersâ secondary is fairly well stocked. Desmond King played extensively as a rookie last season, primarily as a nickel back Tavon Wilson Jersey , while first-round pick Derwin James is expected to be an immediate contributor at safety alongside Addae, who started all 16 games last season.
âIf Trevorâs ankle is bad, then I would be concerned about the depth there,â Lynn said. âBut Iâm also confident in those young guys behind him. Theyâre stepping up and making plays in practice, and thereâs going to be a nice competition in that group.â
