NASHVILLE Kyle Turris Jersey , Tenn. (AP) Winning the Stanley Cup seemed the perfect next step for the Nashville Predators after fighting all season for home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Now they know that winning the Presidentsâ Trophy is no guarantee of winning on home ice when it matters most. The Predators followed their Stanley Cup Final loss last June with the best season in franchise history, posting 117 points and winning their first Central Division title and the Presidentsâ Trophy as the NHLâs best team in the regular season. Their dream of finally hoisting the Stanley Cup ended Thursday night with a 5-1 loss to Winnipeg â their fourth home loss of the playoffs.âItâs difficult,â Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. âWe had talked about what (home ice) meant and as this series wore on, it became evident that nothing really mattered. The home ice didnât matter, the energy in the building, what was going outside of the building with regard to energy. What really what mattered was the way the game was being played on the ice.âThe Predators lost their home-ice advantage in Game 1 to Winnipeg and also lost Game 5 and 7 outscored 19-9 in Nashville. They have plenty of company, becoming the ninth Presidentsâ Trophy winner in the past decade not to win the Stanley Cup. Only Chicago in 2013 is the exception, while the Presidentsâ Trophy winner has won the Cup only eight times since the award was established. Washington, last yearâs trophy winner, also lost in the second round in Game 7.The future looks bright with the top line of Ryan Johansen, budding superstar Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson all under contract through 2021-22.âThe positive thing is weâre a young team and we for the most part, our team will be together for a while,â Johansen said. âLearn from it and come next year Youth Matt Irwin Jersey , weâll have more experience again and find a way to reach our goal.âSome things to know about how the Predatorsâ season ended:WHATâS UP WITH PEKKAThe postseason could not have been much different than the regular season for goalie Pekka Rinne who is favored to win the Vezina Trophy in his fourth try after tying for the NHL lead with a career-high eight shutouts. Of goalies playing at least 50 games, he was first with a .927 save percentage and goals-against average at 2.31. He finished the regular season going 23-5-1 with the Predators earning 47 of a possible 59 points. In the playoffs, Rinne was pulled from four games â three against Winnipeg and all in Nashville. âHe didnât let us down,â captain Roman Josi said of Rinne. âHeâs been our best player all year. Heâs been unbelievable all year. Heâs an unbelievable leader all year. Heâs our rock and our best player.âMISSING DEFENSEMENThe scoring Nashville heavily depended throughout the regular season from the defense corps disappeared in the posteason. The Predators led the NHL with 55 goals and 206 points from defensemen in the regular season, yet Josi and Ryan Ellis did not score a goal in 13 playoff games. Matias Ekholm had one goal and eight points. Only P.K. Subban, a Norris Trophy finalist, picked up from his career-high 16 goals in the regular season. He had nine points with four power-play goals against the Jets.SECOND LINE MIAThe Predatorsâ second line of Kevin Fiala, Kyle Turris and Craig Smith combined to score 61 goals and 141 points in the regular season only to disappear in the playoffs. Fiala had three goals, including the Game 2 game-winner in double overtime of the second round. But Turris, Nashvilleâs big trade acquisition in November, finished with three points and no goals.UPCOMING CONTRACTSCenter Mike Fisher, who came out of retirement in February , forward Scott Hartnell and defenseman Alexei Emelin are the only Predators not under contract next season. Forward Miikka Salomaki and backup goalie Juuse Saros both will be restricted free agents. Saros is much more valuable with Rinne going into the final year of his contract and turning 36 in November. Saros posted a 1.05 goals-against average and .952 save percentage this postseason.â CALGARY Womens Mattias Ekholm Jersey , Alberta â In recent years, the Colorado Avalanche may have been a game Calgary season-ticket holders took a pass on â but no longer.Possibly the NHLâs most explosive line pays a visit to Alberta starting with a tilt in Calgary on Thursday.Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon lead a resurgent Avalanche.Article continues below ...Rantanen had the leagueâs scoring lead entering Wednesdayâs game with 12 goals and 16 assists. MacKinnon was fifth (9g, 9a) and Landeskog ninth (10g, 6a).The Avalanche are tied for second in the Western Conference with a 7-3-2 record.âI think weâre one of the top teams in the league in the standings,â Rantanen told nhl.com. âI know its early, but still, other teams have to look for us and be ready for us. I think weâre playing good hockey now. Itâs still early and there are a lot of games left, so we just have to be consistent.âCalgary is returning home from a very successful two-game trip to Toronto and Buffalo, where they scored late in regulation each night then won in overtime.Matthew Tkachuk tipped in the tying goal with 54 seconds remaining in the third period and Johnny Gaudreau won it 2:40 in overtime. The Flames are 7-5-1 and were seventh in the Western Conference as of Wednesday morning. While the Flames are coming off back-to-back games on the road, the Avalanche are coming off a nice little rest period. They last played on Saturday, losing 3-2 in Minnesota.âRest is the big, main thing coming out of the seven (games) in 12 (days) P.K Subban Jersey ,â head coach Jared. Bednar told nhl.com. âThey had a couple days of rest. We had a good day of practice (Tuesday). Weâll have short one (Wednesday) before we fly off. Then we go back-to-back (games), and theyâll get some rest again and then put them to work and get ready for the next stretch.âThe Avalanche will fly to Vancouver after Thursdayâs game to face the Canucks on Friday. While the Avalanche are rested, the Flames have been busy. They finish up a stretch of six games in nine days on Saturday when they host the Chicago Blackhawks. They have recovered with the two road wins after losing 9-1 to Pittsburgh and 4-3 in OT to Washington at home.âWeâre getting where we want to be,â captain Mark Giordano told reporters in Buffalo. âTonight was solid again, I didnât think we gave up much. Weâre getting to where we know what to expect out of each other defensively and weâre not cheating on offence and thatâs resulting in wins.âGaudreau is again the player to watch for Calgary. Heâs off to a fast start with six goals and 10 assists in 13 games. Calgaryâs top goal scorer so far is Elias Lindholm, who was acquired in the offseason from Carolina.âHeâs one of those players that generates quality chances all the time,â Flames head coach Bill Peters told Postmedia News, whom he coached in Carolina. âRight now, theyâre going in for him. Right now, heâs playing on a real good line with a good play-making winger and a center in Johnny and (Sean Monahan).âThatâs the thing with Johnny â he makes a lot of plays. He buys guys time and Lindyâs done a good job of getting to the right spot at the right time.â
