A look at whatâs happening around the majors today:TRY AGAINLuis Severino gets a wild-card do-over when he starts for the Yankees against Oakland in a winner-take-all matchup. Severino allowed three runs and got just one out in last yearâs wild-card game against Minnesota before New York rallied for an 8-4 victory. Severino was chosen over J.A. Happ and Masahiro Tanaka despite a second-half slump.âI think heâs equipped in so many ways to handle this http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-aaron-h...cks-jer sey , and perhaps most importantly, heâs equipped with amazing stuff and the ability to dominate big league hitters because heâs such a talented pitcher,â manager Aaron Boone said. The Aâs will counter with a bullpen game, beginning with reliever Liam Hendriks â among the more unlikely postseason starters ever. Hendriks was waived off the 40-man roster in June, spent two months in the minors, then emerged in September as Oaklandâs go-to âopenerâ to cover for an injury-decimated rotation.Hendriks (0-1) will be just the fourth pitcher to start a playoff game after a regular season of no wins Aaron Judge Jersey , according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The previous three missed most of their seasons either to serve in a war or because of injury.DOUBTFUL DANSBYBraves shortstop Dansby Swanson appears to be a longshot to make the teamâs roster for its NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Swanson partially tore a ligament in his left hand on a swing against the Mets on Sept. 25. He had pain when he tried to swing a bat Saturday in Philadelphia and received more treatment Tuesday, remaining inside while his teammates were on the SunTrust Park field. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker says Swanson has âa chanceâ to play, but added âI donât know how great of one.âDAY OF RESTAfter winning an epic NL wild-card game that lasted nearly five hours, Trevor Story and the Rockies can finally take a breather. Backup catcher Tony Wolters hit a tiebreaking single with two outs in the 13th inning and Colorado outlasted the Chicago Cubs 2-1 Tuesday night at Wrigley Field in the longest winner-take-all postseason game in major league history. It was the third big game over three days in three different cities for the Rockies, who play Game 1 of a best-of-five Division Series at NL Central champion Milwaukee on Thursday. âWe didnât make it easy on ourselves, thatâs for sure Gleyber Torres Jersey ,â Story said, âbut weâre going to enjoy this one tonight and weâre definitely not done.âTWIN CITIES SEACH PARTYMinnesota is looking for a new manager one day after firing Paul Molitor. Chief baseball officer Derek Falvey and general manager Thad Levine cited a pursuit of more productive player development for their younger players. The move comes amid struggles for Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano, players long targeted as franchise cornerstones. Minnesota is willing to wait until after the World Series to decide on a skipper in case a candidate is still participating. The Chicago Cubs continued to bolster their bullpen ahead of Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, acquiring reliever Brandon Kintzler from the Washington Nationalsfor minor league pitcher Jhon Romero. The Cubs confirmed the move afterMLB.com's Jon Paul Morosifirst reported the news. After being named to his first All-Star team last season, Kintzler has followed it up with another solid performance. The right-hander has posted a 3.59 ERA and a 1.242 WHIP in 45 outings, striking out 31 in 42.2 innings. While his overall numbers may not jump out Tyler Austin Jersey , Kintzler's splits indicate he can succeed away from Washington. He was 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 22 appearances at Nationals Park this season, while he is 1-0 with a 1.99 ERA in 23 road outings, allowing just five runs in 22.2 innings. He is 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA in 11 career appearances at Wrigley Field. The 33-year-old reliever is earning $5 million in 2018 and has a $10 million club option for next year, perSpotrac. If the team declines the option, it reportedly becomes a $5 million player option.Chicago has thethird-best bullpenin baseball. However, it recently placed closer Brandon Morrow to thedisabled listdue to right biceps inflammation. The front office did recentlyacquireright-hander Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers Clint Frazier Jersey , though. At 61-44, the Cubs hold a one-game league in the National League Central. By adding Kintzler and more bullpen depth, they are not only positioning themselves for the stretch run, but for a playoff run as well.
