The Los Angeles Rams loaded up on experience on the defensive line and in the secondary with a series of audacious offseason acquisitions through trades and free-agent signings.
At linebacker Womens Allen Robinson Jersey , however, the Rams are trending in the opposite direction.
The youth movement becomes even more evident during offseason practices.
Third-year linebacker Cory Littleton is calling plays for the first time after moving inside. Second-year outside linebacker Samson Ebukam was paired with rookie defensive end Justin Lawler to form the main pass rush tandem during a team period Tuesday, with rookies Trevon Young, John Franklin-Myers and Brian Womac seeing significant action behind them.
It is a trade-off that seems to be working for head coach Sean McVay.
"We've really put them in some tough situations with how we've practiced, so it requires a lot of thinking on the move, some of the adjustments and things, especially just based on what the offense is presenting And I think they have handled it well, and I think we'll have a better feel towards the end of the offseason program and them going into training camp," McVay said.
The Rams traded inside linebacker Alec Ogletree and edge rusher Robert Quinn during the offseason, and outside linebacker Connor Barwin remains a free agent. Ogletree led the team in tackles last season, and Quinn and Barwin combined for 13.5 of the Rams' 48 sacks.
In the hopes of filling some of those gaps, the Rams used four of their 11 picks on linebackers to add depth inside and outside. Special teams contributors Littleton and Bryce Hager will take on larger roles in the middle, and players from McVay's first draft class in 2017 such as Ebukam and Ejuan Price are being asked to further ramp up their development in pressuring opposing quarterbacks.
That inexperience could be what limits the potential for a defense that added defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh and cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters Womens Drew Brees Jersey , but Littleton expects the linebackers to respond to the challenge.
"We're all still developing, but by the time the season comes I feel we'll all be ready and we can all show that we have more to offer than people might think," said Littleton, who is getting the first chance to replace Ogletree in the middle.
Suh is emphasizing the little details to his youthful teammates, but understand that they take time to be refined.
"As a young guy, I remember you're like a chicken with your head cut off," Suh said. "Just try and take the basic things, and then elaborate on them each and every day."
Fellow veteran lineman Michael Brockers is stressing relentless effort on every play. Suh puts a priority on communication.
For Littleton, the challenge to communicate is literal. He has never had to relay defensive signals before, and Littleton acknowledged that requirement of his new position is at odds with his reserved nature.
"I'm not the most vocal person, but I do my best," Littleton said. "Speak a little louder, hope everyone can hear me."

Aqib Talib is reuniting with Wade Phillips in Los Angeles after the Denver Broncos agreed to trade the star cornerback to the Rams Womens T.Y. Hilton Jersey , a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.
The Rams will send Denver a mid-round pick, believed to be a fifth-rounder, in next monthâs draft for the perennial Pro Bowl cornerback, said the person, who spoke off the record because the trade isnât official until the start of the new league year Wednesday.
âMan, Iâm so excited,â Talib told The Associated Press from Dallas on Thursday night. âI canât wait to play for Coach Sean McVay, go back with working with Wade, and playing with my young man, Marcus Peters. Heâs going to bring that young energy back to me.
âIâm super excited to play with those guys. Aaron Donald is a good friend of mine, too, so I get to go from playing behind Von Miller to playing behind Aaron Donald. Thatâs not too shabby. I got another MVP in front of me.â
The NFL Network first reported the agreement. The Broncos had been in talks with the Patriots, 49ers and Rams about Talib Kirk Cousins Jersey Big , who signed a six-year, $57 million deal in Denver in 2014, part of a defensive makeover that carried the team to the Super Bowl title two years ago.
In Los Angeles, Talib will reunite with Phillips, who was his defensive coordinator in Denver until last year, and will play alongside a fellow star defensive back in Peters, whom the Rams are acquiring from Kansas City .
Talib had an eventful four seasons in Denver, both on and off the field. He missed the Broncosâ visit with former President Barack Obama to celebrate their Super Bowl 50 triumph after accidentally shooting himself in the leg during a night of partying only to come back to have an All-Pro season in 2016. He was suspended for one game for fighting Michael Crabtree last season.
None of that is why the Broncos are moving on from Talib.
They needed to clear both salary cap space and room for rising cornerback Bradley Roby, whoâs getting a big pay raise from about $1 million in 2017 to $8.526 million this year in the final season of his rookie contract.
On Thursday, the Broncos also picked up cornerback Chris Harris Jr.âs $1 million option, guaranteeing his 2018 salary of about $7.5 million. Heâll cost them $10.26 million against the cap in 2018.
By trading Talib, whoâs due $11 million this season and $8 million next year, the Broncos will have about $35 million in salary cap space to pursue free agents Womens Jordan Reed Jersey , including quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Talib said Donald was the first Ram to reach out to him after word of the deal got out Thursday night. They share an agent in Todd France.
Talib said heâll miss playing with Harris, his college teammate at Kansas, and the rest of the Broncos, however.
âItâs a business, man, so them guys understand,â Talib said. âChris hit me up. Weâre all talented corners and they couldnât pay all of us. They got that quarterback situation theyâve got to fix.â
Talibâs departure further breaks up the âNo Fly Zone â secondary that saw its first departure last fall when the Broncos cut safety T.J. Ward so they could play second-year safety Justin Simmons more.
Talib, who was one of the Broncosâ defensive captains last season, called his stay in Denver special.
âIâm going to miss it. Itâs a one-of-a-kind group in that locker room,â Talib said. âVonâs going to be out here in Dallas this weekend for the grand opening of my workout facility. So, Iâll get to hang out with him again. But Iâm definitely going to miss it. A lot of good memories in that locker room.â
