HOUSTON -- With eight players on the disabled list the Los Angeles Dodgers have needed some of their young talent to step up. cheap jerseys from china . On Tuesday night the rookies came through. Rookie Jerry Sands hit a grand slam in the third inning and Jay Gibbons also homered as the Los Angeles Dodgers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros. Two rookie relievers shut down Houston in the last two innings to secure the victory. "It feels good to get kids being a part of it," manager Don Mattingly said. "Weve had to call them up out of necessity with injuries and things that have happened and you dont really want it for that reason. But one of the benefits is that these guys get a shot probably earlier than they would in another case and that experience can be valuable for them." Houston starter J.A. Happ (3-6) walked Jamey Carroll with two outs in the third inning before a single by James Loney. Matt Kemp reached on an error by second baseman Bill Hall to set up Sands slam to left-centre. "That was real tough," Hall said of the error. "On the second hop it kind of took off and if Id tried to step back and catch it from the side and missed it they score a run. I did my best to keep it in front of me." The home run by Gibbons to right field in the second inning put Los Angeles up 1-0. Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (3-4) yielded five hits and four runs with nine strikeouts to get his first win this month. Carlos Lee drove in two runs in Houstons three-run third inning. Rubby De La Rosa, who was called up from Double-A Chattanooga on Tuesday, pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning for the Dodgers in his major league debut. Javy Guerra, who was called up May 15, pitched a perfect ninth for his first major league save. "Rubby threw the ball really well (with) a lot of confidence and went right after guys," Mattingly said. "Then Javys got great stuff. Thats basically what he was doing before he came up -- closing. Weve see a lot of confidence in his stuff, its electric." Billingsley pitched a perfect fourth and fifth before Hunter Pence doubled to start Houstons sixth inning. He walked Lee and Brett Wallace to load the bases. Chris Johnsons sacrifice fly to centre scored Pence and cut the lead to 5-4. Billingsley was able to limit the damage by retiring the next two Astros to end the inning. "I was just trying to get ahead and (Pence) jumped on it for that double in the gap and then walking the next two guys, I just really had to bear down," Billingsley said of escaping the inning with the lead. Michael Bourn walked with two outs in the third inning for Houston. Clint Barmes singled before Pence followed with a double to right field that scored Bourn to make it 5-1. Lee drove in two with a single to centre to get the Astros within 5-3 before Wallace struck out to end the inning. Happ allowed three hits and five runs -- one earned -- in five innings. "Happ had that third inning that elevated his pitch count and got it up to 93 or 94," Houston manager Brad Mills said of why he pulled Happ after five innings. "All five of their runs came with two outs and no one on and then we gave them that extra out. That always hurts." The grand slam by Sands was the first by the Dodgers this season and the second home run of his career after he was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on April 18. He has 16 RBIs since joining the team. "Getting a few hits here and there and a couple of home runs here and there definitely help your feet settle down in the box a little bit," he said. "Its all about confidence up there." Happ retired the next seven batters after the grand slam. Loney extended his hitting streak to a season-best 10 games with his single in the third inning. NOTES: Dodgers OF Andre Ethier was out of the lineup for the second straight game after being taken out of Sundays game after running into the outfield wall. Mattingly said hes OK, but there were a couple of reasons why he decided to give him another day off. "With the lefty tonight, it would probably be an easy chance to give him another day," Mattingly said. "I need him to be able to go 100 per cent. Last year he got banged up and he was hobbling around the whole time out there the whole second half of the year. I just dont want to see that." ... Houston OF/IF Jason Bourgeois, on the DL with an oblique strain, felt good Tuesday, a day after taking swings for the first time since his injury. He hopes to take batting practice by the end of the week. nfl jerseys china . Following a shock 3-0 home defeat to rival West Ham, the London club claimed its fifth league win of the season to move to fifth in the standings, three points behind leader Arsenal. "The opening goal was important to bring confidence and we really played well in the second half," Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas said. wholesale jerseys . The 23rd-seed crushed Italian Filippo Volandri 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 at the Australian Open on Tuesday and joined fellow Canadians Aleksandra Wozniak and Stephanie Dubois in the second round. Cyber Monday Michael Kors Wallets Deals .J. -- Canadians Karina LeBlanc and Candace Chapman are headed to Sky Blue FC of Womens Professional Soccer.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox are on the cusp of their first World Series appearance since 2007. To get there, though, they may have to get past the best pitcher in the American League this season. Max Scherzer will try to keep the Red Soxs champagne on ice and extend the Detroit Tigers season on Saturday, as the American League Championship Series shifts back to Fenway Park for Game 6. Scherzer could be on his way to an AL Cy Young Award after going 21-3 this year with a 2.90 ERA. Its been more of the same for him in the postseason, as he has won twice and has pitched to a 2.25 ERA in three appearances. "You just go out there and pitch your game," Scherzer said. "Baseball is still the same, sixty feet and six inches (from the mound to home plate), and you have to throw strikes. The expectations and pressure doesnt mean you change. "Thats something thats always been instilled in me, and doesnt matter what the situation or what the game means, Im always going to approach the game the same way." Scherzer was terrific in Game 2 against the Red Sox, as he limited them to a run, two hits and struck out 13 over seven innings. However, after exiting with a four-run lead, he had to watch the beleaguered Tigers bullpen implode in a 6-5 loss. "I told them I was done," Scherzer said after that one. "They wanted me done. They had it all lined up how they wanted to approach the eighth inning." Now Scherzer will be tasked with staving off elimination for the Tigers, who dropped two of three at home to the Red Sox, including Thursdays pivotal Game 5 contest at Comerica Park. Mike Napoli had three hits, including a home run, and scored twice and the Red Sox reached Anibal Sanchez for four runs, then held on for a 4-3 win. Boston managed nine hits off of Sanchez after not getting one off of him in six innings in Game 1. In fact, the Red Sox had tallied just 14 hits and three runs off Detroit starters through the first four games combined. Jon Lester (1-1), who lost Game 1, was charged with two runs in 5 1/3 innings to get the win, as he gave up seven hits, three walks and struck out three. Red Sox closer Koji Uehara continued to impress, as he retired every batter he faced in a five-out save, his first since Sept. 20. "Maybe its the same five outs numbers-wise, but it was completely different because it was the playofffs," said Uehara, who has pitched five scoreless innings this series. Black Friday Celine Boogie Bag Deals . Miguel Cabrera had an RBI single for Detroit but was thrown out at home in the first inning and grounded into a double play in the seventh that scored a run but killed a potential rally. "We were fortunate we got a couple of ground-ball double plays ... none bigger than the first and third with nobody out to Miggy," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. Prince Fielders drought continued for the Tigers, as the first baseman has now gone 17 straight postseason games without an RBI. "We have to go to Fenway and we have to fight hard enough to win a game," said Cabrera. "If we do that, we have to keep fighting and get the next one. Weve done this before, and weve got great pitchers." To make matters worse for the Tigers, they lost catcher Alex Avila with what the team said was a left knee patellar tendon strain. Avila was hurt in a collision at the plate with Red Sox catcher David Ross in the second inning and was taken out after four. There have been four one-run games in the series, which already matches the ALCS record, set by the Orioles and Indians in 1997. "I just think thats playoffs," said Boston outfielder Jonny Gomes. "Especially the Sox and Tigers. Thats about as even as it gets right there." Hoping for a little more of a cushion on Saturday will be Boston righty Clay Buchholz, who was 12-1 during the season with a 1.74 ERA, but has pitched to a 6.17 ERA in two starts this postseason. Buchholz was spared a loss in his Game 2 assignment, but was not sharp, as he allowed five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Of course, David Ortiz got him off the hook with a game-tying grand slam, as the Red Sox rallied from five runs down in a 6-5 win. "There were a couple of innings I let the ball get out of the zone and they hit it out of the park," Buchholz said. "I need to minimize the damage a little bit better. Both video and talking to whoever it is on the staff, you can sort of pick each others brain and see what I was feeling, what I could have done differently and how to get better from it." Recent history is not in the Red Sox favor, as the last four series that have featured a 3-2 lead, the team losing Game 5 has gone on to win the ALCS. If necessary, Game 7 will be on Sunday. ' ' '
