One thing sticks out to Patriots running back Dion Lewis about his time with the Philadelphia Eagles.
âNot playing Bo Scarbrough Color Rush Jersey ,â Lewis said Tuesday with a smirk.
Lewis is one of three Patriots starters who will be facing their former team in Sundayâs Super Bowl, along with receiver Danny Amendola and safety Patrick Chung.
All three players look back on their experiences in Philadelphia differently, but they have played their best football since being rejected by the Eagles early in their careers.
Lewis was drafted by Philadelphia in the fifth round in 2011 and played two seasons for them before he was traded to Cleveland. Amendola was among Philadelphiaâs final cuts in training camp in 2009. Chung started his career in New England, spent a forgettable year with the Eagles in 2013, then returned to the Patriots in 2014.
Amendola has experienced people doubting his abilities since he entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Dallas in 2008. He signed with Philadelphia in 2009 after being cut by the Cowboys. But after eight months with the Eagles, he was released. He was signed up by the St. Louis Rams and stayed there for four seasons before signing a five-year contract with the Patriots in 2013.
This past Christmas he tweeted a picture of his framed No. 11 Eagles jersey, a gift from a friend.
âItâs in my pool room â hanging as daily motivation,â Amendola said. âIâve come a long way since getting the opportunity to play there. It obviously didnât work out, so I guess I take it as a learning experience and just realize how far Iâve come.â
Chung thought he was heading for a fresh start when he signed a three-year contract with Philadelphia in 2013, but it didnât work out under then first-year coach Chip Kelly. Chung was back in New England the next season. The decision paid off with a Super Bowl ring last season.
As for that 2013 season, Chung was coy about what he remembers about the experience.
âThatâll be between me and those people,â Chung said.
Lewis said despite his success in New England winning a ring last season and leading the team this season in rushing yards (896) and rushing touchdowns (six) http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-ric...ers-jer sey , he has learned to stay motivated.
âNever safe. You still gotta put the work in. You still gotta get an opportunity. Thatâs what most of the guys in the league need â just an opportunity to compete,â Lewis said.
He said heâs matured a lot since leaving Philly.
âPeople look at you and kind of characterize you,â Lewis said. âThey try to tell you what they think you can do without even really knowing you. Thatâs kind of what I went through. I just kind of keep battling and showing people what I can do.â
As much as Lewis, Amendola and Chung have enjoyed their time in New England, they arenât naive to how the Patriots deal with aging players. This past offseason the Patriots parted with LeGarrette Blount, who led the NFL with 18 regular-season rushing touchdowns in 2016. But he also had turned 30, long considered the age of decline for running backs.
Blount was vocal about his desire to stay in New England, but the Patriots signed Mike Gillislee. Blount took a one-year deal with the Eagles, where he has had a good season and been a leader.
Amendola restructured his contract to remain with New England this season. With Julian Edelman out for the season with a knee injury, Amendola has stepped up, leading the team with 196 yards receiving and two touchdowns in the playoffs.
At 32, he will also enter free agency this summer.
Lewis is in the second year of a two-year deal and becomes an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Chung http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-sam-d...old-jer sey , who turns 31 this summer, is signed through 2018.
Chung said heâs always admired Belichickâs no-nonsense approach to football. When reports came out about Belichick possibly considering retirement, Chung joked that his future was linked to that of his coach.
âWhen heâs done, Iâll be done, too,â Chung said.
Lewis said he will have no regrets if this is in his final season in New England.
âJust being here and learning what it takes to be a champion,â Lewis said. âI think thatâs something Iâll always remember, regardless of what happens. Iâll just cherish my moments here.â
The Patriots gave him â and Amendola and Chung â what theyâve always wanted: an opportunity.
âNobodyâs really given me a chance, and these guys gave me a chance. So that definitely means a lot to me,â Lewis said. âSo Iâll always just remember what Iâve learned here. And hopefully Iâll still be here.â

The Marlins overtook the Mets on the scoreboard and in the standings Saturday.
And for the second game in a row, Miami beat New York with a rookie pitcher making his first major league start.
Brian Anderson hit a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom and the Marlins climbed out of last place in the NL East by rallying past the reeling Mets, 5-2.
âWeâre not in last place? Awesome Authentic Baker Mayfield Jersey ,â said J.T. Riddle, whose scratch RBI single put Miami ahead to stay.
The Mets (32-48) lost for the 10th time in 11 games and fell into last place for the first time this year. They finished 5-21 this month for the worst June in franchise history, and theyâve plummeted from 10 games over .500 to 15 under at an earlier date than any team in major league history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
âIt was not the goal when we came in,â deGrom said. âThis is the complete opposite. Nobodyâs happy with that.â
Meanwhile, the rebuilding Marlins (34-50) went 14-14 in June, their best month this season.
They seem to get better as they get younger. Pablo Lopez (1-0) allowed two runs in six innings in his major league debut less than 24 hours after Sandy Alcantara won his first big league start Friday. Both are 22.
The last time two pitchers on the same National League team earned wins in their first career starts in consecutive days was in 1967 when Gary Nolan and Mel Queen did so for the Reds, according to Stats LLC.
DeGrom took a 2-0 lead into the sixth, but Andersonâs fifth homer tied it. Riddle beat out a dribbler to the first baseman for a two-out RBI hit that put Miami ahead.
âI thought that swinging bunt was foul,â deGrom said. âI should have gone over there and got it.â
Another fielding lapse cost the Mets in the seventh. J.T. Realmuto hit a two-run double after an error by shortstop Amed Rosario prolonged the inning.
Drew Steckenrider pitched a perfect eighth, and Kyle Barraclough earned his eighth save with a 1-2-3 ninth. Steckenrider has thrown 15 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, and Barraclough has thrown 20 2/3 â two more reasons the Marlins are on the rise.
âWeâre gaining some type of identity as to what kind of games we need to play to win http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-br...ker-jer sey ,â manager Don Mattingly said. âWeâre not going to outslug anybody. Weâre going to have to pitch and play defense and scratch for runs.â
The Metsâ runs came on solo homers against Lopez. Jose Bautista hit his fifth of the year, his third with the Mets. Todd Frazier added his ninth.
DeGrom (5-4), who departed after six innings trailing 3-2, fell to 1-4 in his past five starts despite allowing only 15 runs. His ERA, lowest in the majors coming into the game, rose to 1.84.
âI am definitely frustrated,â he said. âIâm tired of losing.â
ROOKIE PITCHERS
Lopez was the 17th rookie and 12th rookie pitcher used by Marlins, both most in the majors.
âAs soon as I stepped out of the dugout, I just kept looking up in the stands, and they were so big, all the way up to the sky,â the Venezuelan right-hander said. âThis is where I wanted to be. I just needed to calm myself down.â
Four pitchers have made their first major league start against New York this year Lorenzo Carter Color Rush Jersey , and theyâve combined to go 3-0 with an ERA of 1.57. But at the moment, the Mets are having trouble beating anybody.
âItâs difficult right now,â first-year manager Mickey Callaway said. âI know the players are feeling it. I know the fans are feeling.â
EFFORT ISSUE?
Mets pinch-hitter Jose Reyes appeared not to run out a grounder to short in the seventh.
âIt looked like that to us, too,â Callaway said. âI went to talk to Rey-Rey, and he said he felt something out of the box and he was scared he was going to pull som
ething. He kind of pulled up halfway. I thought that maybe he was frustrated, but he felt something coming out of the box.â
TRAINERâS ROOM
Mets: RHP Noah Syndergaard (finger) and LHP Jason Vargas (calf) are expected to start against each other in a simulated game next week at Single-A Port St. Lucie.
UP NEXT
Mets LHP Steven Matz (3-5, 3.69), who has thrown 13 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings at Marlins Park, is scheduled to start the series finale Sunday against RHP Dan Straily (3-3, 4.82).
