Hereâs a look at whatâs happening around the majors today:
HIGH HEAT
Itâs expected to be a hot box at many ballparks Chris Carson Jersey , with game-time temperatures likely to climb over 100 degrees in Texas for White Sox-Rangers, near triple digits in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Yankee Stadium, and into the mid-90s in Chicago and Cincinnati. On Saturday, three Twins left early with heat illness at Wrigley Field.
âDrink more water, try to stay by the fan. I try to keep a towel by my side and make sure I catch my breath,â White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson said. âItâs a mind thing. You canât think too much about it. If you do, itâll eat you up.â
Angels manager Mike Scioscia saw starter Tyler Skaggs wilt after five innings in Baltimore. Scioscia was already anticipating another steamy afternoon.
âThese guys will be hydrating tonight and I know Deck McGuire, the starter, was hydrating all day just in anticipation of the heat,â he said.
Said Orioles skipper Buck Showalter: âThereâs a big bulletin board the guys see every day reminding them of the things they need to do to hydrate properly. ⦠Weâre taking a lot of precautions.â
RIVALRY NIGHT
The Red Sox and Yankees play in prime time, with stars David Price (9-5, 3.66 ERA) and Luis Severino (12-2 Tom Brady Jersey , 2.10) on the mound. New York entered Saturday a major league-best 19-5 against left-handed starting pitchers, and its .820 OPS against lefties was best in the majors. The left-handed Price has been tough lately, though, going 7-1 with a 2.72 ERA in nine starts since being diagnosed with a mild case of carpal tunnel syndrome that caused him to miss a scheduled turn against the Yankees in early May.
POWER PITCHER
The biggest bat off Cincinnatiâs bench might be in the bullpen. No, really. Reds reliever Michael Lorenzen has homered in three straight at-bats after connecting for a pinch-hit grand slam Saturday in a 12-3 victory over Milwaukee. He also went deep Friday during Milwaukeeâs 8-2 win. âWe treat him as a position player. We covered him in scouting meetings. Weâre going to have to make some adjustments,â Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. The last major league pitcher to homer in three consecutive at-bats was Coloradoâs Mike Hampton in 2001. For the season, Lorenzen is 4 for 6 with three homers and six RBIs. His fifth career homer was the second grand slam by a Reds pitcher in a week â starter Anthony DeSclafani also hit one against the Chicago Cubs.
STINGY STUFF
The surging Rays (41-41) send left-hander Blake Snell (10-4, 2.31 ERA) to the mound against Charlie Morton (10-1, 2.54) and the World Series champion Astros in the finale of a four-game series. Snell didnât give up a hit until the seventh inning of an 11-0 win over Washington on Monday night. Tampa Bay has limited opponents to two runs or fewer in five straight games, and seven out of eight during a tough stretch against the Yankees, Nationals and Astros. Morton has won three straight starts and hasnât permitted an earned run in his last two. Houston first baseman Yuli Gurriel (paternity leave) is expected back in the lineup.
CANADIAN CURRENCY
Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ (10-3, 3.62 ERA) faces the skidding Tigers on Canada Day in Toronto. An expected trade target as the July 31 deadline approaches, Happ has won six straight decisions and is unbeaten in eight outings. Detroit has lost 11 games in a row overall â and 12 of 14 in Toronto. Meanwhile Colton Schmidt Jersey , the Blue Jays have won 10 of 11 at home.
BAY AREA BOOM
Jed Lowie and the Oakland Athletics (46-38) try for their seventh straight victory when they host AL Central-leading Cleveland. The surprising Aâs have won 12 of 14 overall. Theyâve also taken seven in a row against Cleveland, and nine of the last 10 meetings in Oakland.
SUMMER WINS
Chicago Cubs left-hander Jon Lester (10-2, 2.18 ERA) hopes to start a new month the same way he ended the last one. After going 5-0 with a 1.13 ERA in five June starts, Lester pitches against Lance Lynn (5-6, 4.81) and the Minnesota Twins in the finale of the three-game interleague series.
WESTWARD NO
The Baltimore Orioles are 0-15 against AL West opponents this year after losing to the Angels 6-2 on Saturday. The Oâs have dropped seven in a row overall, 17 of 18 at Camden Yards and own the worst record in the majors at 23-59. Theyâll try again when Kevin Gausman (3-6, 4.20 ERA) pitches at home against Los Angeles righty Deck McGuire, who makes his third major league start. Gausman has lost his last four decisions and hasnât completed seven innings in any of his past eight starts.

Eric Bieniemy had better learn to ration his booming voice.
It was one thing when the running back-turned-assistant coach could spend an entire 3-hour practice barking at the running backs, a handful of players under his direct supervision. Itâs quite another now that heâs in charge of dozens of players on the Kansas City Chiefsâ offense.
But that in-your-face intensity is also a big reason why Bieniemy has quickly risen through the coaching ranks, from running backs coach at his alma mater, Colorado, to offensive coordinator in the NFL.
So donât expect him to turn the volume down anytime soon.
âThe biggest thing Coach Bieniemy will bring to our offense is his intensity,â said Chiefs running back Spencer Ware Desmond Trufant Jersey , who has worked closely under him the past couple seasons. âIf you look at his resume and the players heâs coached and the way they play football, each and every play they get out there on the field â having an entire offense with that same mentality is pretty exciting.â
Pretty intimidating, too.
Bieniemy carries a presence on the practice field that looms much larger than his stout frame. When he speaks, people listen â mostly because the volume is so high.
Quite frankly, itâs hard to ignore.
âI just joked with him out here, heâs having to walk around now. He isnât coaching just one position,â Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. âHe has to grind on everybody. That takes a little bit of getting used to. He did a nice job of figure all that during minicamps and that.â
Reid has always thought highly of Bieniemy, who joined his initial staff as the running backs coach in Kansas City. But the fact that he elevated Bieniemy to offensive coordinator after watching Matt Nagy take over the head job in Chicago speaks volumes about Reidâs belief in his assistantâs ability.
Never before has he had an offensive coordinator who played anything but quarterback.
There was Rod Dowhower in the early years in Philadelphia, and Brad Childress and Marty Mornhinweg had backgrounds with the most mentally demanding position on the field. Doug Pederson became Reidâs first offensive coordinator in Kansas City before taking the Eaglesâ top job and parlaying some of what he learned during his time with the Chiefs into a Super Bowl title this past season.
It makes sense, too. The quarterback is the only player on offense who must know everybodyâs job on every play. Thatâs why so many of them successfully transition to coaching.
Bieniemy has shown a similar aptitude, though. The Chiefs have always used their running backs in the passing game, so heâs had a hand in that part of the scheme, and his success in helping Kareem Hunt go from unheralded and overlooked draft pick to NFL rushing champion was hard to ignore.
âHe brings a certain detail to the offense that I think that we really need Fred Biletnikoff Jersey ,â first-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes II said, âand itâs something that he stays detailed and he stays on you and he makes sure youâre doing the right things, and I feel like itâll help me a ton as this year goes along.â
Over time, Pederson and Nagy were given carte blanche with the offense, and thereâs a good chance Bieniemy will earn that latitude as well. But for now, heâll work hand-in-hand with Reid and quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka in orchestrating what could be one of the leagueâs top offenses.
The Chiefs have surrounded Mahomes with plenty of weapons: Hunt in the backfield, Travis Kelce at tight end, and wide receiver Sammy Watkins joining speedster Tyreek Hill as downfield threats.
In other words, theyâve also given Bieniemy the tools necessary to succeed.
âThis is actually a unique position because I get to touch every position on the offensive side of the ball,â he said. âItâs a unique situation to be in.â
NOTES: The Chiefs released WR Elijah Marks and signed DT Mike Purcell. ⦠Hunt did individual work but was held out of team drills Friday to rest his hamstring, which bothered him during the summer. ⦠LB Reggie Ragland (knee), CB Ashton Lampkin (knee) and FS Armani Watts (ankle) did not practice.
