Once Memphis realized that Detroit couldnt hit a jumper, the Grizzlies packed the paint on defence and outscored the Pistons by 33 points in the second half on the way to a 112-84 victory. Zach Randolph finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds for Memphis. "We were struggling against their post players in the first half, so we made an adjustment and really tried to take away the paint," Grizzlies coach David Joerger said. "They were playing zone against us, but Zach was able to get inside and disrupt things, and that opened up some kick-out shots to our 3-point shooters." Detroit lost its fourth straight and fifth in a row at home. The Pistons are now 4-10 after a 10-10 start. "This is most definitely an emergency right now," Brandon Jennings said. "It is slipping away from us. You start questioning if everyone is willing to sacrifice and do the things that we need to win games." Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks met with his players after the game to try to find a solution. "Im trying to get some insight from them, and well talk more tomorrow," he said. "When things happen like this, and we dont have any ball movement, thats on me. I have to find a way to do that." Detroit missed 16 of 20 second-half jump shots, managing just 28 points after a 56-point first half. Jennings went 0-for-7 in the half. "Right now, for some reason, were just a first-half team," Jennings said. "We arent coming out with the same energy in the second half, and weve got to find out why. This is ridiculous right now." Memphis got a big game off the bench from second-year player Jon Leuer, who had 23 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes. "Jon did a great job last year of honing his game all through the season -- he was still working hard in March and April when a lot of players have hit the rookie wall," Joerger said. "This year, hes taken things another step, and you can see where it has paid off. Hes got the shot fake that can set up a drive, and hes doing more things off the pick-and-roll." Memphis had six players in double figures, including 15 from former Piston Tayshaun Prince. Prince acknowledged that he gets a boost from returning to the building where he won the 2004 championship. "Its always special," he said. "You always have some incentive to hopefully go out there and get a team win. This team does a great job that when someone is facing their former team, everyone steps up to help them." Greg Monroe led Detroit with 19 points, while Andre Drummond added 15 points and 14 rebounds. But they combined for only eight points in the second half. "It definitely hurt playing like that in the second half," Drummond said. "To let them come out and do that -- thats definitely tough to swallow." The Grizzlies continued to alternate wins and losses, going 3-2 in their last five without back-to-back victories or defeats. Both teams were short-handed in the backcourt. Hamilton County prosecutors said Irsay was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance or its metabolite in the body, which carry maximum penalties of 60 days in jail and $500 fines for each count. A probable cause affidavit said Irsay was driving under the influence of oxycodone and/or hydrocodone, both powerful painkillers. Irsay was arrested near his home at about 3 a.m. on March 16 with $29,000 in cash and bottles of prescription drugs in his vehicle. Police said Irsay denied being drunk and told an officer he had taken several prescription medications during the day. A police report said the 54-year-old billionaire was so disoriented that officers made him sit on the hood of a patrol car to keep him from falling, and that he had trouble reciting the alphabet. Police had filed four preliminary felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, charges that each carried possible sentences of six months to three years in prison. Prosecutors took weeks before deciding to file the misdemeanour charges instead. The Indianapolis law office representing Irsay, Voyles, Zahn & Paul, released a statement thanking the prosecutors office for its professionalism in handing the investigation and "for devoting the necessary care and attention to determine the facts in this matter did not warrant the filing of felony charges relative to Mr. Irsays prescription medications." Colts spokesman Avis Roper declined immediate comment. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is still reviewing the matter. "The NFLs Personal Conduct Policy applies to all league personnel and holds all of us accountable. There are few examples of the league punishing an owner like Irsay. Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand was suspended for 30 days and fined $100,000 in 2010 for violating the NFLs personal conduct policy following his guilty plea to driving while impaired. The police report said Irsay stumbled out of his SUV and failed field sobriety tests. After Irsay refused a blood draw, a judge approved a search warrant to draw his blood. Refusing the blood test means Irsays drivers license will be automatically suspended for one year. An initial hearing is scheduled for June 19. Irsay was supposed to have an initial hearing on March 25, but that hearing was postponed because he had been admitted to an out-of-state medical facility for inpatient treatment, the prosecutors office said. His family said at the time he was undergoing treatment "to help him meet his challenges head-on." Irsay acknowledged in 2002 that he had become dependent on painkillers after several years of orthopedic operations but said he had overcome the problem. Irsay resumed his duties with the Colts at the NFL draft earlier this month and earlier this week he made the unsuccessful personal pitch to his fellow owners on behalf of Indianapolis bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Irsay became the Colts owner in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and a lengthy legal battle with his fathers second wife. Forbes magazine has estimated Irsays net worth at $1.6 billion. He has helped build the Colts into a top NFL team over the past decade behind quarterback Peyton Manning, now with Denver, and was a key player in the drive to bring the Super Bowl to Indianapolis two years ago. He is working with some success to rebuild the team behind young quarterback Andrew Luck while coping with a divorce that follows a decade-long separation from his wife of 33 years.
