Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - The South Florida Bulls and the California Golden Bears collide on the hardwood in Dayton tonight, as part of the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament at University of Dayton Arena. wholesale nfl jerseys . South Florida is playing in its first NCAA Tournament game in 20 years, and for only the third time in program history. The Bulls logged a 20-win season for the second time in three years, and the squad went 12-6 in the daunting Big East Conference. USF won its opening game in the Big East Tournament (56-47 over Villanova), but then fell to Notre Dame in a tough 57-53 final last Thursday evening. As for California, it received its 17th invitation to the NCAA Tournament, and is 19-16 all-time in the event, which includes a National Championship earned way back in 1959. The Golden Bears picked up 24 wins for the second time in two seasons, and finished second in Pac-12 Conference play with a 13-5 league ledger. Cal defeated Stanford, 77-71, in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Colorado, 70-59, in a semifinal-round matchup last Friday. TSN.ca has exclusive live streaming of the First Four round match-ups. Catch tonights games beginning at 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt. The winner of tonights affair will advance to Nashville on Friday as a No. 12 seed for a meeting with fifth-seeded Temple. These two programs have met only twice on the hardwood prior to tonights contest, with each taking a victory on their respective home floors. The Bulls led 45-42 with just over a minute to go in regulation against Notre Dame, but were unable to hold on down the stretch and the Irish forced the extra session. The back-and-forth continued in overtime, but UND held on for the narrow win despite shooting just 38.1 percent from the field. Victor Rudd, Jr. scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace USF, while Anthony Collins added 13 points and passed out seven assists in a losing effort. The Bulls play a grinding-style of defense that allows opponents to net just 56.9 ppg on 38.8 percent field goal efficiency. At the other end of the court, the Bulls average only 59.2 ppg themselves, but have proven that they can turn it up when necessary, scoring 70 or more points on six separate occasions this year. Still, the club doesnt have a single player with a double-digit scoring average, although Augustus Gilchrist does rest on the cusp with a team-leading 9.6 ppg. Cal shot just 42.9 percent from the field and hit only 5-of-16 from beyond the arc against Colorado, scoring just 59 points in the recent loss. It was only the third time all season that the Golden Bears were held to under 60 points, as the squad averages 71.7 ppg this season on an outstanding 47.9 percent shooting clip. Allen Crabbe scored 18 points to pace Cal in the losing effort, while Justin Cobbs added 15 points to go with six rebounds. Jorge Gutierrez got into the mix as well, finishing with 10 points. Crabbe leads the way for the Golden Bears this season with 15.3 ppg, while Gutierrez contributes 13.1 ppg. Gutierrez was the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, and he also grabs 5.3 rpg to go with 131 assists through 32 contests. Cobbs also averages in double figures for Cal (12.9 ppg), while Harper Kamp checks in with 11.3 ppg. The Bears have gotten it done from just about anywhere on the floor this season, converting 36.8 percent of their attempts from downtown to go with a 74.6 percent conversion rate at the charity stripe. The club does commit more than its share of giveaways (12.9 per game), but makes up for it by holding the opposition to 41.1 percent shooting and yielding only 61.8 ppg. Vermont battles Lamar in first round of NCAA Tournament Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - The Vermont Catamounts and Lamar Cardinals will meet in Dayton tonight to take part in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The winner of this matchup between these two 16th-seeded teams will advance to the second round on Friday to tangle with the Midwest Regions top-seed, North Carolina. Vermont has been on quite a roll lately, notching victories in 14 of its last 15 contests, including the America East Conference Championship Game. The second-seeded Catamounts bested No. 1 seed Stony Brook, 51-43, last Saturday for the league title, securing themselves a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Catamounts own a 23-11 overall ledger, a mark made all the more impressive considering that head coach John Becker is only in his first season at the helm. Becker set a new school record for a first-year head coach with his 16th win in a 73-63 final over Maine back on Feb. 6, and is only the fifth coach in AEC history to earn 20 or more wins in his inaugural campaign. As for the Cardinals, they rolled over McNeese State, 70-49, last weekend to notch both the Southland Conference Tournament championship, as well as a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Lamar is enjoying one of its best seasons in the past two decades, and comes into this affair with an identical 23-11 tally as Vermont, marking the first time since 1988 that the club reached the 20-win plateau. The Cardinals plowed through the Southland Conference to end the season, rattling off six straight wins and seven of their last 10 overall. Tonights bout marks the first-ever meeting between these two schools on the hardwood. The Catamounts kept Stony Brook in check to the tune of 29.3 percent shooting from the field last Saturday, a mark that included a mere 4-of-19 effort from long range. The Catamounts allowed their adversary access to the charity stripe only six times during the contest, from which Stony Brook came away with a mere five points. The Catamounts shot an underwhelming 41.9 percent from the field themselves, but did manage to drain nearly half of their 15 three-point attempts. Four McGlynn scored 14 points off the bench to pace Vermont in the win, and while Brian Voelkel logged just five points, he led the way on the glass with a game-high 15 rebounds to go with seven assists. The defensive effort against Stony Brook came as a surprise to very few, as Vermont ranks 32nd in the nation in scoring defense with just 60.5 ppg allowed. The last seven games in particular have demonstrated an extremely stifling effort by the Catamounts, with opponents averaging a mere 51.1 ppg. The squad is led on offense by freshman McGlynn, who was named the America East Rookie of the Year. McGlynn is the only player at the Division I level to lead his team in scoring without starting a single contest, although he has appeared in every game this season. The Catamounts average 67.2 ppg, and own a respectable .443 field goal percentage, but they have had the most success at the foul line, where they rank 36th nationally with a 74.2 percent conversion rate. Joining McGlynn in double figures are Matt Glass (11.9 ppg) and Luke Apfeld (10.2 ppg). Lamar went into the break with a 33-21 advantage over McNeese State and never looked back last Saturday, as the Cardinals hit 48.1 percent of their attempts from the floor over the final 20 minutes en route to a 21-point decision. The squad connected on 47.2 percent of its shots overall, adding 16-of-21 at the foul line in the process. The Cardinals also held McNeese to an underwhelming 31.1 percent shooting effort, and dominated the contest down low to the tune of a 34-20 besting of the Cowboys in the paint. Mike James poured in a game- high 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way for Lamar, while Devon Lamb netted 12 points. James earned Southland Tournament MVP honors following his most recent performance, and he currently leads the Cardinals with 17.0 ppg for the year. Miles joins him with a double-digit average of his own, posting 14.5 points to go with a team-best 4.1 assists per outing, while Lamb checks in with a healthy 11.9 ppg. Lamb also leads the way for Lamar on the boards with 7.9 rpg, and he has also managed to log 10 double-doubles this season. The club averages a solid 73.9 ppg, and yields only 65.4 ppg. The Cards connect on 43.5 percent of their total shots, and have had more than enough success at the foul line, hitting 72.1 percent of their opportunities. cheap jerseys from china . -- Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie restructured his contract Tuesday to remain with the team. wholesale jerseys . Team Canada captured its third gold medal in the past four world championships, beating Swedens Jalle Jungnell 4-3 on Saturday at the Ice Cube Curling Center in Sochi, Russia, in the final of the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel was bold in calling Wednesday nights game against Charlotte an "elimination game" for the reeling Bobcats in the race for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. "We think this would be a knockout blow if we get this win," Vogel added. About three hours later, the Bobcats look effectively done in. The main culprits are the Pacers Danny Granger, Stephen Jacksons hamstring injury and Boris Diaws odd refusal to shoot. Granger scored 33 points, Tyler Hansbrough added 24 and the Pacers enjoyed a night of good fortune in beating the slumping Bobcats 111-88 to open a three-game lead over their closest competition for eighth place in the East. "We just wanted to put the nail in the coffin and move up in the race for the eighth spot," said Roy Hibbert, who had 13 points and 14 rebounds. "I think we did a good job." With the Bucks also losing Wednesday to fall three games back, the Pacers are in good shape to reach the post-season with 10 games left. Indiana has also clinched the season series over Charlotte thanks to a four-game season sweep. "It was a huge game for us," said Granger, who helped turn a 12-point, second-quarter deficit into a rout thanks to his 25-point burst in 16 minutes bridging the second and third quarters. D.J. Augustin scored 17 points and Kwame Brown had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Bobcats, who have dropped four straight and 10 of 12. Perhaps even more painful for Charlotte was watching top scorer Jackson held to 11 points as he laboured through a strained hamstring. Jackson didnt have a field goal after the first quarter as he continues to have problems with an injury thats hampered him for a month. "I couldnt move or be the player I know I can be out there," said Jackson, who missed Saturdays loss to San Antonio and tweaked it again at the morning shootaround. But while Jackson said, "If they shut me down for the rest of the year its going to be their decision," irritated coach Paul Silas already shut down another starter on his own. Boris Diaw, Charlottes third-leading scorer, was yanked in the third quarter after passing up a shot in the lane for a behind-the-head pass that was intercepted and led to Brandon Rushs 3-pointer at the other end. cheap jerseys . Diaw never returned, playing 24 minutes and not attempting a shot. "I just told him in all my 40 years in the NBA, Ive never seen anyone do that -- not take one shot in 24 minutes," Silas said. "Thats something that Ive never, ever seen." The Pacers, not long ago mired in a six-game skid, have come on of late behind Hansbroughs continued emergence and Grangers scoring, the Pacers have won two straight and extended their wining streak over Charlotte to six after a slow start. Granger scored 14 points in the second quarter when the Pacers took their first lead. He was up to 28 points by the time Indiana took control in the third. The Pacers outscored Charlotte 33-19 in the third quarter and 57-35 in the second half. Indiana also survived a scare when point guard Darren Collison collided with Augustin in the second quarter and crumpled to the floor clutching his right knee. Collison returned after halftime and had seven points and four assists, leading an offence that shot 54 per cent from the field. "That was a big win for our ball club," said Vogel, who moved to 15-13 since replacing the fired Jim OBrien. "Going into the final weeks of our season as one of the hottest teams in the league. Were 5-2 in the last seven games." Charlottes going in the other direction after its roster was gutted by the trade that sent former All-Star Gerald Wallace to Portland last month. To make things more bleak, the Bobcats also lost forward Tyrus Thomas to bruised ribs in the decisive third quarter. "Im not going to let them lay down and quit," Silas said. "Thats not going to happen." Notes: Bobcats assistant Charles Oakley missed the game as he awaits test results for a painful back injury that forced him to be carried from the bench Saturday in San Antonio. "Right now its hard for him to walk," Silas said. "Hes struggling." ... Pacers and CBS college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg has the Charlotte-Newark, N.J. flight path down. He was in Charlotte last weekend for the NCAA tournament, flew to Newark on Monday for the Pacers game, was back in Charlotte Wednesday and returns to Newark on Friday for the NCAA East regional.
